Group Scout Leader report November 2014

Hello all,

I am writing this report after the Remembrance parades of Sunday 9th. It was great to see so many Beavers, Cubs, leaders and parents parade and attend the service in Grove. We had “standing room only” in Grove Church this year! Our Scouts and Explorers attended the parade and service in Hanney and complimentary reports were received all round! I feel it’s important for our young people to share in this each year – well done all!

We continue to thrive as a group, attracting young people from all over the District, and increasing numbers in nearly all sections. All this growth adds pressure to our leader team and if you feel you can support the team in anyway either by becoming a leader yourself or by supporting the leaders with essential admin we would love to hear from you. Fiona has very kindly helped Sarah cover the Kingfisher Beavers, unfortunately this can’t continue after the end of the term, so unless some people step up there we will have to (I hope temporarily) close the section. We remain tight on leaders across the Beaver and Cub sections.

The maintenance day at the start of the half term was a real success; the building is well protected for winter now and we had a long overdue sort out of the stage and “kitchen” areas. Thanks to those who attended and a special thanks to our electrician Ron for sorting out all the broken lights and for wiring up the hot water heater!

We still have some tentage that needs looking at, if you can spare an hour or two taking home a tent and making sure “all is well” please let me know – it would be great to get all the gear sorted ready for next year’s camping season!

I would like to thank Millbrook School for the kind donation of the matching stackable chairs.  The old chairs found a new home at Childrey pre-school.

As we near the end of the term the Christmas Post will soon be upon us. Please continue to support this event it is our single largest fund raiser of the year. Even if you do not live in Grove and have no delivery allocated to yourself we can always do with more help at the sorts.

For those of you who are Millbrook Parents we have a stall at the Christmas Fayre there on the 28th November – please come along and say hello – I will be helping Santa in his grotto.

Next year brings the centenary of Cub Scouting and lots of events are planned as part of Cubs Year of Adventure! Our other sections will also be running exciting programmes – it’s great as GSL to see such wide and varied activities taking place – well done leaders for that!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for all that you do for Grove Scout Group – as youth members, as parents, as leaders, as committee members and other volunteers – without you we couldn’t be the success that we are – thank you all!

Lastly, I would like to wish you and your families a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year!
